Still Home is a video piece that consists of 6 sequences that are connected through the exploration of physical and psychological space. Physical space is examined through daily ritual, and psychological space is investigated through emotional binaries such as longing and loneliness, separation and connection, and entrapment and freedom. Vignettes within these sequences are repeated to create foreshadowing, an emotional atmosphere of repeated memories, and a sense of familiarity with the environment.
The video piece has long sections of stillness broken up by moments of movement to build a sense of tension, and to experiment with the melding of the mediums of photography and video. The play between the two mediums is further explored by the piece possessing no audio track. A still image typically does not contain a physical sound, and a video usually has sound corresponding to a movement. By creating an implied sound with the movement of an image, I have made a connection between the silence of a still image, and sound of a moving image.
